    Eckstein Middle School Equipment Policy

As dropping pass temperatures spawn rumors of continued snowy evenings, the teacher-chaperones of the Eckstein Snow Sports Program, wanted to take the opportunity to review some of the Behavior and Equipment Policies surrounding the program.

Academic Progress and Skiing: Because Eckstein is a community life long learners, we feel that it is critical that the privilege of skiing does not come at the cost of academic progress. Please see the separate page that explains this policy: Eckstein Snow Sports Progress Report Policy.

Program Rules and Expectations: The Eckstein Snow Sports Program adheres to the rules expectations of Eckstein Middle School, Seattle Public Schools (found in the student planner) and Youth Sports Services (found on this page).

I-Pods, Cell Phones and Cameras: While these items are not appropriate for the school day, they are part of many skiers and snowboarders experience on the hill. If you choose to bring these items to school keep in mind the following:

    • Having these electronics out at school is a violation of school rules!
    • If you choose to bring these items you do so at your own risk and are responsible if they are lost and stolen!

Helmets: Helmets have become an essential piece of snow-sliding equipment and while we cannot enforce a mandatory helmet policy we strongly encourage you to provide your skier or snowboarder with a helmet and require them to use it. Helmets save lives!

Storage: Students are to store all ski/snowboard equipment throughout the day in the 2nd Floor balcony of the auditorium. This space is only open from 7:30-7:50 a.m. for drop off and at 2:20-3:00 p.m. for pick up. Buses leave at 3:00 p.m. promptly, so be sure to get your stuff right away. Please plan your morning so that you are not late to classes!

Communication to and from the Mountain:
We will be relying on our Eckstein Eagles Snow Sports Webpage (http://ecksteinms.seattleschools.org/cms/One.aspx?portalId=6143&pageId=29065) in order to communicate everything that we possibly can. Please plan to check this page on the day that we return for an approximate arrival time, as we will be posting to the site when we are en route.

Please visit the Communication Policy Page for more detail.

Hopefully, this will eliminate the time that you will have to wait the dark cold parking lot prior to our arrival. Thanks for your patience.

    Thanks for your Support:
We are looking forward to a great season and are glad that you have decided to be part of the Eckstein Snow Sports program. Please check the website for many additional answered questions regarding storage, etc.
