    Goodbye Principal Sterk

    Dear Families,

The opportunities we have here at Eckstein to bring meaningful change to this world are profound and I am fueled daily by the hard work, humanity and joy our staff and students bring each and every day.

When I joined Eckstein midway through the 2014-15 school year, I quickly focused our team on creating student-focused classrooms and a community of support for development of the whole child. Working together, our efforts have been on delivering engaged, relevant and student-centered instruction through a culturally responsive lens. With this work, we've seen increased student spirit, positive climate surveys, high academic growth rates and clear evidence that we have narrowed the opportunity gap for students who are the furthest from educational justice. I am very proud of what we have accomplished.

So it is with sadness that I write to let you know that at the end of this school year, I will be taking a leave of absence to attend to important personal matters. Kristin Rose, one of Eckstein’s current Assistant Principals, has been appointed as the Interim Principal and will continue the great work we do. Mrs. Rose brings over nine years of middle school and high school leadership, including working closely with me in the leadership of Eckstein; I am confident in her ability to assume this new role.

We have built strong systems of communication, instructional supports and a network of teacher leaders. We have a smart, passionate and hard-working staff. I am confident that these people and systems will sustain, grow and evolve under Mrs. Rose’s leadership to make Eckstein even better than it is today. Your continued kindness, advocacy and support of the school reassures me that the coming year will be positive for our students and community.

    Go Eagles!
