PE Waivers
PE Waivers at Eckstein
2025-2026
PE Waivers are Now Available Online and due December 1, 2025
- Please fill out the online PE Waiver Form. All documentation supporting your waiver must be emailed to Ms. Tai (jetai@seattleschools.org).
- If you would rather fill out a hard copy waiver, please come to the Main Office to get a copy.
PE is a WA State Requirement: WA State Legislature mandates that students in grades 1-8 participate in at least 100 minutes of weekly PE classes (equivalent to one semester of PE instruction hours) unless they qualify for a waiver. Please note that SPS does not endorse PE Waivers (Reference: RCW 28A.230.040). Students may be excused from the PE requirement for the following reasons:
- Physical Disability (6, 7, 8 grades)
- Religious Belief (6, 7, 8 grades)
- Participation in Directed Athletics (7, 8 grades only)
Notes
- Documentation (e.g. letter from coach/team/proof of registration) is required to waive PE and must be emailed to Ms. Tai (jetai@seattleschools.org). Screenshots of practice schedules are also acceptable supporting documentation—please include these with your waiver submission. Confirmation or receipts of sports registrations are also accepted as documentation.
- For any sport/activity that begins after December 1, a guardian may sign instead of a coach. We will request additional information from your family if needed. Incomplete waivers will not be approved.
- The total number of hours must equal or exceed 60 hours, and these hours must be accrued during the current school year. You can submit the form based on your intention of participation (with accompanying verification documentation), and adjustments can be made later if needed.
- If your student requested to waive PE last spring and does not have it on their schedule, you must submit a valid PE waiver to formally waive PE.
- If your student has PE on their schedule now and you would like to waive it, please submit a PE waiver. Even with a PE waiver, your student may still be required to take PE as our elective availability is limited.
- If your student has PE on their schedule, they must request to drop it when semester 2 elective change requests open in January. Any request to drop PE must have a complete PE waiver on file to consider a PE drop. Your student will be scheduled for PE if we do not have a waiver or there is no open elective during your PE period.
