Eckstein Middle School Leadership Update

Dear Eckstein Families and Staff,

Principal Kristin Rose has accepted the leadership position at Roosevelt High School and will begin serving in this new role beginning Jan. 29. While we understand this may be met with mixed emotions across both staff and the greater school community, it is clear that Principal Rose has loved her time leading Eckstein Middle School. She has done a remarkable job setting systems in place that will lead to continued success for students, staff, and community.

With Principal Rose transitioning to Roosevelt on Jan. 29, Ms. Ambyr Burrell will serve as Interim Principal at Eckstein for the remainder of the 2025-26 School Year.  Ms. Burrell has served with distinction as Assistant Principal at Nathan Hale High School for the last two years.  Prior to her time at Nathan Hale, Ms. Burrell served in a variety of roles in the Mukilteo School District: as an Assistant Principal at Harbour Pointe Middle School for three years, as an instructional and secondary ELA coach for four years, and an English teacher at Mariner High School for eight years. In each of Ms. Burrell’s roles, she has focused on ensuring that all students achieve high academic outcomes by building strong systems for collaboration with the entire school community.

With the solid foundation and systems Principal Rose has established, we are excited to see Principal Burrell add her experience, expertise and collaborative system-building talent to support students, staff and families at Eckstein.

In the spring, we will meet with Eckstein’s Building Leadership team and parent representatives to discuss next steps with principal hiring processes for the 2026-27 school year.

Please join me in thanking Principal Rose for her outstanding leadership at Eckstein over the last nine years and join me in welcoming Interim Principal Ambyr Burrell to Eckstein as she continues the legacy of collaboration, community and compassion we all have come to admire about Eckstein Middle School.

In partnership,

Dr. Mike McCarthy
